TRIESTE – The Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Edoardo Rixi will be in Cairo tomorrow to take part in TransMEA 2025, the main event dedicated to mobility and infrastructure in the Middle East and North Africa.

The event brings together transport ministers and operators from over 400 international companies, with more than 35,000 industry professionals participating.
During the mission, Rixi will meet the Egyptian Vice President and Minister of Transport and Industry, Kamel El Wazir, with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation on port systems, logistics and sustainable industrial development. The Deputy Minister will also speak at the round table “Dry Ports and Logistics Zones in Italy”, illustrating the Government’s strategies to reinforce Italy’s role as a Mediterranean logistics hub, thanks to the Italy 2032 plan, port digitalisation and the TEN-T corridors.

The visit takes place one year after the launch of the Motorway of the Sea between Trieste and Damietta, a connection that has strengthened trade between the two countries and represents a concrete basis for new synergies in the Euro-Mediterranean context. Italy aims to confirm its role as a strategic bridge between Europe, Africa and the Middle East, also in terms of logistics security and shared growth.

In recent days, in Cairo, the Italian special envoy for the Imec, Francesco Talò, also reiterated Egypt’s value as a central hub of the India–Middle East–Europe Corridor. According to Talò, the North African country is a “gateway to Africa and the Middle East”, while Trieste represents the natural terminal towards Central Europe and the Baltic. Egypt, he added, shows strong interest in taking part in an open and inclusive infrastructure project capable of boosting flows of goods, energy and digital connectivity, in a framework that also looks to the Mattei Plan and the extension of the corridor towards the African continent. «We want the approach to the Corridor to be open and inclusive, and to create new opportunities in the transport of goods as well as in energy and digital sectors», in which Egypt is increasingly asserting itself, Talò explained.
