TRIESTE – The fifth ship in the Grendi Group’s fleet will be called Grendi Horizon. The name was made official after a vote involving the Group’s employees, customers, partners and suppliers, gathering more than 630 preferences across online and social channels.

The new Ro-Ro vessel, built by Cantieri Visentini (Porto Viro, in the province of Rovigo), will enter service from June under a five-year time-charter contract. With this addition, the Grendi fleet will rise to five operational ships, strengthening the Group’s integrated logistics model on domestic and international routes.
The ship, 204 metres long and 26 metres wide, has a gross tonnage of around 13,400 tonnes, a cargo capacity of 3,000 lane metres (952 TEU) and a cruising speed of 21 knots. Construction is scheduled for 2026, with a European flag and crew.

The naming choice follows a well-established tradition within the Group, already adopted for vessels such as Rosa dei Venti, Grendi Futura and Grendi Star, aimed at directly involving the company community and partners in key moments of fleet development.
Operationally, the ship will be deployed to carry trailers, rolling cargo, cars, containers and project cargo. It is equipped with advanced energy-efficiency systems, scrubbers for exhaust-gas treatment and methanol readiness, as well as the ability to use shore power while in port.

According to Antonio Musso, CEO of Grendi Trasporti Marittimi, the arrival of the fifth vessel will increase the Ro-Ro fleet’s cargo capacity and improve efficiency, reliability and service flexibility, confirming the Group’s orientation towards more sustainable maritime transport.
