TRIESTE – Fincantieri has signed a strategic agreement with WSense for the co-development, both technological and commercial, of wireless solutions dedicated to the underwater domain.

The deal marks a further step in cooperation between the two companies and aims to strengthen the shipbuilding group’s offering in advanced systems for the subsea dimension. The agreement follows two main tracks. On the one hand, the joint development of wireless technologies for underwater applications; on the other, a commercial arrangement for the use of these solutions in environmental monitoring and in the control of civil infrastructure through Fincantieri Infrastructure.

Specifically, WSense technologies will be integrated into Fincantieri’s DEEP system, dedicated to the monitoring and protection of critical infrastructure. Using wireless solutions reduces reliance on cabling—one of the main vulnerability points of traditional systems—thereby increasing plant resilience and security and making installation and operational management easier. On the civil side, the commercial arrangement opens the way to the use of WSense technologies for environmental monitoring and for checking the structural integrity of assets, delivering benefits in terms of effectiveness, safety and efficiency for end users.

The agreement builds on an already well-established relationship, further strengthened by Fincantieri’s investment in WSense in April 2025. The partnership is based on complementary capabilities: Fincantieri’s ability to integrate complex systems and WSense’s specialisation in wireless networks and subsea monitoring systems.

According to Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of the Group, the agreement provides concrete reinforcement to the company’s strategy in the underwater economy, enabling advanced national technologies to be embedded into next-generation products and increasing the safety, resilience and sustainability of strategic critical infrastructure. For Chiara Petrioli, CEO of WSense, the partnership consolidates the company’s role as a reference player in underwater innovation and, together with Fincantieri, makes it possible to bring to market advanced wireless systems for surveillance and the sustainable management of subsea infrastructure—positioning Italy among the leading players in the Internet of Underwater Things.
