TRIESTE – The Koralm Railway has cleared its first proving ground: in the first 100 days of freight operations, more than one million tonnes were moved on over 1,050 trains and 21,000 wagons. A result that strengthens Austria’s role as a logistics hub at the heart of Europe and consolidates the rail corridor towards the Adriatic.
Since early November 2025, the new infrastructure has been in service for freight traffic, delivering immediate effects in shorter transit times, higher capacity and improved competitiveness for the national logistics system. A direct beneficiary has been ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG), which in just over three months has already routed more than 1,000 services along the new line.
«Thanks to the additional capacity we can offer our customers significantly faster connections in southern Austria and to the ports of the Adriatic. This sustainably strengthens Austria as a logistics platform in the heart of Europe», said Christoph Grasl, member of RCG’s Management Board.
