TRIESTE – Friuli Venezia Giulia is expanding its maritime public transport network. From today, new seasonal connections enter service, completing the system provided for under the 2026-2030 regional contracts.

The services are part of the new five-year contracts, with a total value of more than €36.6 million. The first lot, awarded to Delfino Verde Navigazione, includes the Trieste-Porto Vivo-Barcola-Cedas/Topolini-Grignano-Sistiana, Trieste-Sistiana-Duino-Monfalcone and Trieste-Grado-Lignano Sabbiadoro lines. The second lot, awarded to a temporary consortium made up of Saturno di Zentilin Adriano and Santa Maria di Nico Pavan, includes the Lignano Sabbiadoro-Grado via Porto Buso, Marano Lagunare-Lignano Sabbiadoro and Aquileia-Grado connections.

The main new features of the season include the direct connection between Trieste and Lignano Sabbiadoro without transfers, together with an increase in services, an extension of the operating period and the introduction of new stops along the Trieste coast. In particular, the Trieste-Sistiana-Duino-Monfalcone line, the Lignano-Grado lagoon connection via Porto Buso and the Aquileia-Grado line enter service today. The latter is intended to enhance the connection between the coast and one of the region’s main archaeological sites, while the new Duino stop will make its debut within the regional maritime network.

The first results appear to confirm public interest. Since the services began on 25 April, the Trieste-Grado-Lignano line has carried more than 2,500 passengers and almost 500 bicycles, while the Trieste-Sistiana coastal line has exceeded 6,000 passengers. Particularly significant is the presence of users from outside the region: more than half of the passengers on the Trieste-Grado-Lignano line and more than 80% of those on the Trieste-Sistiana line do not live in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
For residents, fares remain unchanged from the previous season, with the possibility of purchasing ten-journey ticket books. Children under the age of ten travel free of charge when accompanied by a paying adult, while bicycle transport costs one euro.
