TRIESTE – MSC has scaled back its Hadria service by dropping the calls at Gioia Tauro and Malta, while keeping Trieste, Koper and Rijeka.

There has been no official communication so far, but rumours among operators describe the move to turn the link into an intra-Adriatic loop as a significant prospect for the Port of Trieste, which in 2025 suffered a sharp decline in container traffic.

After the announcement of the Dragon service, it also appears that the world’s largest shipping line (which controls Trieste Marine Terminal) intends to ramp up volumes at Pier VII. It is therefore likely that Far East sailings will also load cargo for Koper and Rijeka. This would become transhipment cargo for the Port of Trieste, with the Hadria service then carrying it to its destination in Slovenia and Croatia. The same dynamics could also apply to US export cargo.

The Hadria rotation is expected to be:
Trieste–Koper–Rijeka–Trieste
