TRIESTE – The Port System Authority of the Central-Northern Adriatic Sea has completed all works financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan on schedule, uploading the certificates of completion to the ministerial ReGiS platform by the 30 June 2026 deadline.

The nine projects concerned digitalisation, cybersecurity, ecological transition and energy sustainability, with total investments amounting to around €60 million.

The main works include the redevelopment of the former Sarom refinery, where a photovoltaic park has been built on around 34 of the 44 hectares of the disused industrial area, with installed capacity of 37.16 MWp. The remaining surfaces have been transformed into wooded areas with environmental mitigation functions.

The first phase of the cold ironing system at the Porto Corsini passenger terminal has also been completed, together with the electrical infrastructure that will connect the new photovoltaic plant to the cruise terminal, allowing ships at berth to switch off their auxiliary engines and reduce atmospheric and noise emissions. The second phase of the project will continue in the coming months with the laying of underground cables and electrical substations.
In the cruise terminal area and the Parco delle Dune, charging stations for electric vehicles have been installed, while a new all-electric vessel has been built for cleaning port waters and collecting microplastics, supported by a multifunctional charging station in the city dock.

On the innovation front, the upgrade of the Port Community System, which digitalises the exchange of documents and information between operators in the logistics chain, has been completed, as has the MACSecurity project, dedicated to strengthening the cybersecurity of port digital infrastructure.

The “Terminalisti Green Ports” programme has also been completed, financing seven projects to replace internal combustion operating vehicles with new zero-emission vehicles. The Port Authority has also renewed its own vehicle fleet, replacing cars purchased in 2010 with fully electric vehicles.

«Meeting the NRRP deadline of 30 June 2026 was a major challenge that required a strong commitment from the Authority’s entire organisation», said Authority president Francesco Benevolo. «We have not only unlocked extraordinary investments, but returned disused areas to the local area, transforming them into energy parks, and introduced technologies capable of reducing the environmental impact of port activities. With these interventions, the port of Ravenna strengthens its role as a strategic national hub, becoming even more competitive thanks to innovation, infrastructure security and environmental protection».
