TRIESTE – Following the end of the summer travel season, which saw record traffic volumes across the motorway network (+8% in June and +4% between July and September, for a total of nearly 21 million vehicles), Autostrade Alto Adriatico has resumed maintenance work.
For the autumn period, nine construction sites are planned, with an investment of €900,000, to resurface 57,664 square meters of carriageways. The works involve sections of the A4 motorway between Meolo–Venezia Est (toward Venice), Quarto d’Altino–Meolo (toward Trieste), Meolo–San Donà di Piave (toward Trieste), Portogruaro–San Stino di Livenza (toward Venice) and the Latisana link road. On the A28, interventions will cover the Pordenone Centro Commerciale–Cimpello section (toward Portogruaro), the Portogruaro toll plaza (toward Conegliano), and the Sacile Ovest–Sacile Est and Godega di Sant’Urbano–Cordignano stretches (both toward Portogruaro).
Work began last weekend with the first two sites on the A4, between Meolo and Venezia Est and between Quarto d’Altino and Meolo, completed in five nights without significant traffic disruption. More challenging will be the 2.2-kilometer site on the three-lane A4 section between Meolo/Roncade and San Donà di Piave, heading toward Trieste. To allow for full pavement renewal, work will continue around the clock, day and night, with lane shifts between 11 p.m. on Saturday, October 4 and 4 a.m. on Thursday, October 9. Two lanes in each direction will remain open, with a dedicated exit lane at Meolo for traffic coming from Trieste.
Starting October 6, work will also resume on upgrading the central reservation between Redipuglia and the Trieste/Lisert toll barrier, which was suspended during the summer to ease traffic and mitigate the impact of the closure of Slovenia’s H4 expressway. The total investment for this project amounts to €8.3 million, including €6.8 million in works, over a 4.2-kilometer stretch. Throughout the project, carriageways will be reduced from 7.5 to 6.4 meters, but two lanes in each direction will remain open to minimize traffic disruption.
