TRIESTE – The Senate’s Budget Committee approved yesterday a provision that will allow the regionalisation of the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency, providing for an autonomous directorate also in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
This was highlighted by Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Sandra Savino. Savino also thanked the offices of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and of the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency «… with whom we have worked in recent months to lay the groundwork for this important reorganisation».
«The work carried out by the Agency’s offices in Friuli Venezia Giulia, starting with the port of Trieste, plays a strategic role of the highest importance for the country’s economic and logistics system. The new organisation», Savino added, «will allow greater operational effectiveness, strengthening the Agency’s presence in the area and improving its ability to respond to the needs of businesses, citizens and institutions».
«We believe the provision approved yesterday strengthens the Agency’s presence in the area, allowing economic operators and customs brokers to interface with a directorate dedicated to the region’s logistics platform, which has characteristics and markets very different from those of other Italian regions», commented Stefano Visintin, president of Confetra Fvg, the association that brings together port operators.
«It is a request from operators that the Council of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia had already taken up in November 2021, unanimously approving a motion tabled by the regional group leader of FdI (Fratelli d’Italia), Claudio Giacomelli. We thank Deputy Minister Sandra Savino for embracing this request and promoting it within the Ministry of Finance in coordination with the National Directorate of the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency. We would also like to recall», Visintin concluded, «that maintaining and developing the customs regime of Trieste’s International Free Port requires specific expertise, which a regional directorate would certainly ensure».
