TRIESTE – An operational visit to the port of Trieste took place for a high-level international delegation involved in initiatives linked to the India–Middle East–Europe Corridor (IMEC). Ambassadors, government representatives, the European Commission, think tanks and business operators took part in a site visit organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The delegation, led by ambassador Francesco Maria Talò and also including representatives from Germany, India, Japan and Greece, visited the port aboard the motor vessel Delfino Verde. Accompanying the group was the president of the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port Authority, Marco Consalvo, together with representatives of the main terminals.

During the navigation, the port’s overall operations and the functioning of the integrated system were illustrated. Particular attention was devoted to ongoing investments and to growth prospects linked to rail enhancement and increased port capacity. The delegates asked several questions about the port’s operating model, showing interest in investment opportunities and in the integration between maritime traffic and the rail network.

«It was a very productive day – commented Port Authority president Marco Consalvo – because it allowed the delegates to see directly in the field how the port works and its ability to integrate logistics, industry and energy. Trieste confirms itself as a natural platform for the new global corridors».
