TRIESTE – With the start of 2026, Interporto Padova is strengthening its role in international rail freight by activating two new intermodal connections to Germany.
The expansion of links with Northern Europe comes in response to growing demand from the market.
As of this week, InRail—Autobrennero Group’s railway undertaking—has launched a new service to Duisburg, one of Europe’s main logistics and steel hubs. The service provides six weekly runs outbound and six inbound, ensuring high frequency and operational continuity.
In recent days, a new connection to Rostock—a strategic Baltic port—has also started. The service is operated by LTE Italia and likewise offers six pairs of trains per week, widening routing options to Northern Europe and the Baltic markets.
Alongside the new German corridors, Interporto Padova has also recently activated a link with Belgium. The Padua–Zeebrugge service, operated by GTS Rail, begins with three weekly runs, with an increase to five planned in the second quarter of 2026. The first train from Zeebrugge arrived in Padua on 15 January, while the first departure towards the Belgian terminal took place yesterday, 18 January.
With the increase in requested train paths, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana has guaranteed full operation of Interporto Padova’s freight station on Sunday afternoons as well, ensuring service continuity and better connectivity with the European intermodal transport network.
