TRIESTE – duisport is expanding its range of freight transport solutions to Asia, with a particular focus on the CIS countries (Commonwealth of Independent States).
The company managing the inland port of Duisburg, which also holds a stake in the Trieste Freight Village, is strengthening its rail links with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, involving Turkey, Georgia, and Mongolia in the network.
“With our modern rail connections to major Asian economic centers, we are a reliable partner even in challenging times,” said Lars Wich-Kuhnlein, Head of Sales at duisport logistics & port services.
The state-of-the-art bimodal terminal “Railport” by duisport in Kartepe (Turkey), near Istanbul, is expected to play a key role in this new phase of growth. “With tracks, loading areas, and warehouses, we offer a one-stop solution on-site,” explained Piotr Tutak, Head of Tradelanes.
The goal remains to build supply chains with reliable connections between Europe and Asia, and duisport highlights several benefits: daily freight trains between North Rhine-Westphalia and Central Asia, with transit times shorter than maritime transport and more cost-effective and eco-friendly than air or road freight. Tailor-made logistics services are also offered, including door-to-door delivery, packaging, warehousing, and customs management.
In 2024, the duisport Group recorded a total revenue (including non-consolidated strategic investments) of €356.3 million (compared to €331.5 million in 2023). EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) stood at €22.6 million (2023: €24.1 million). Container transport capacity rose to 3.9 million TEUs in the 2024 financial year (2023: 3.6 million). In total, duisport handled 50.8 million tons of cargo by ship, rail, and truck last year — exactly the same as in 2023.
