TRIESTE – A joint operation by the Guardia di Finanza and the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency led to the seizure of over 26,000 dangerous or counterfeit items at the Port of Trieste.
The goods, divided into two rail shipments from China and transiting through Greece, were destined for the German market. During customs checks on the first swap body, officers from the Trieste II Group and customs officials discovered undeclared packages. Among them were over 470 plush toys, later found to be counterfeit according to technical assessments by NINTENDO Co. LTD. The inspection also uncovered nearly 1,500 pieces of costume jewelry containing hazardous chemical substances, as confirmed by the Customs Agency’s laboratories.
Further investigations into the shipping company led to the discovery of a second rail shipment with more than 20,000 smuggled items, including 13,000 bras that laboratory tests deemed hazardous to health.
