TRIESTE – SIOT-TAL, the company managing the Transalpine Pipeline that starts from the Port of Trieste, closed 2025 with 41.6 million tonnes of crude oil discharged, up on 2024 and back above pre-pandemic levels. The 41.6 million tonnes mark a 3.5% increase on 2024 and a 13.4% rise on 2023, bringing volumes back to pre-2020 levels. Demand from Central Europe supported flows, particularly to the Czech Republic. For this market, the TAL+ project was completed, increasing pipeline throughput.

Growth in 2025 was accompanied by an investment plan worth €56 million. The works included increasing jetty capacity and optimising port operations. According to the company, the upgrades also helped reduce operational risks at sea. Efficiency is another key point: the 41.6 million tonnes were handled with 422 oil tankers, one fewer than in 2024, when 423 tankers delivered 40.2 million tonnes. The new infrastructure now allows Suezmax-class vessels to berth, with higher cargo capacity. Since 1967, the year it entered service, the Transalpine Pipeline has moved more than 1.7 billion tonnes of crude oil, with over 22,700 vessels calling at Trieste.
