TRIESTE – Simone Venturini is the new mayor of Venice and the port sector has immediately sent its first messages of support and cooperation. The issue was also central during the election campaign, in which the centre-right candidate had announced his intention to retain direct responsibility for the port, considered strategic for the economic future of the city and of Porto Marghera.
The president of the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority, Matteo Gasparato, stressed that the future of the Veneto port system is «inextricably linked» to cooperation with local administrations. Gasparato congratulated Venturini and the newly elected mayor of Cavallino-Treporti, Roberta Nesto, highlighting the working relationship already established in recent months with both.
According to the president of the Port Authority, «positive and loyal dialogue between institutions» is the basis for addressing the future challenges facing Veneto’s ports, both locally and internationally.

The Venice Port Community also welcomed the election of the new mayor. Its president, Davide Calderan, reiterated the port community’s willingness to continue dialogue with the municipal administration, referring in particular to the commitment made by Venturini during the public meeting organised on 6 May by Venice Port Community and Confindustria Venezia.
On that occasion, the new mayor had stated that he would personally retain responsibility for the port, a move interpreted by operators as a sign of attention towards Venice’s maritime and logistics sector. Calderan also recalled Venturini’s support for the main infrastructure dossiers concerning the port of Venice, from access channels to the Tresse 2 project, as well as nautical accessibility, the Marittima terminal and the MOSE.
For Venice Port Community, the port represents «the only real alternative to tourism» for Venice’s economy, a sector which — it stressed — must continue to develop without disregarding the protection of the local area.
