TRIESTE – From the 10th september, a new direct railway service connecting the terminal container of the port of Trieste and Ludwigshafen in Germany will be active.
The service – it specifies a note of MSC – has been designed to improve the rail capacity and reduce the transit time between Turkey and Germany to approximately 12 days. The connection will be weekly and will leave from Trieste every Thursday, arriving at destination on Saturday. The new rail line will enable the provision of a door-to-door service between the two locations.
MSC’s multimodal solution will provide a new route from the Turkish ports of Derince, Gemlik Istanbul, Izmir (Aliaga), Mersin and Tekirdag to the Ludwigshafen industrial area in Germany via MSC’s D-line and Adriakia short sea services, thus offering a quick alternative to road transport.
Ludwigshafen’s strategic location, overlooking the Rhine and with easy access to Frankfurt and Stuttgart, makes it an ideal location for local goods’ distribution and access to the Northern European market. The service is designed to offer customers transporting auto parts, chemicals, textiles, packaging, food, pharmaceuticals and many other products fast transit times between Turkey and Germany.
Luca Russo, Trade Manager for the Adriatic Region for MSC added «Ludwigshafen has always been a popular destination for cargo from Turkey, as it is such an important industrial hub. While this service was created to support this vital connection between Germany and Turkey, our multimodal options from Trieste will also enable us to serve a wide range of origins and destinations both in the Mediterranean and for our global trade routes».
«We are currently handling huge volumes from Turkey to Germany, and availability on existing rail services is limited,» says Cem Kurtuldu, Business Development and Project Specialist for MSC Turkey. «This service will improve reliability for our customers and, thanks to MSC’s intermodal investments within Germany, we can provide an expedited and secure door-to-door service between the two destinations».
