TRIESTE – The heavy-lift vessel Zhen Hua 35 reached the Port of Rijeka at dawn on 25 December, carrying two new RTGs (Rubber-Tired Gantry Cranes) destined for the AGCT (Adriatic Gate Container Terminal) container terminal.
Departing from Shanghai in October, Zhen Hua 35 is on a multi-stop voyage to deliver a total of 13 port cranes. Before arriving in Croatia, the ship had already called at Tangier and Genoa, completing other unloading operations.
The two RTGs delivered to Rijeka are hybrid yard cranes, designed for container handling in storage areas. The hybrid drive system enables reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions, in line with the terminal’s modernization and sustainability pathway.
AGCT’s overall investment in new quay cranes (delivered to the terminal in late November), RTGs and additional operating equipment totals around €35 million. The program aims to increase terminal capacity and strengthen the role of the Port of Rijeka along the Adriatic corridor toward Central and South-Eastern Europe.
As reported on these pages, in recent days Zhen Hua 35 also transported and delivered new yard cranes for the Port of Venice’s container terminal, confirming a sequence of closely spaced operations affecting several strategic ports in the area.
