TRIESTE – The port of Ravenna continued to grow in the first months of 2026 and also recorded a new all-time cargo record for a single vessel.
According to the first data collected by the PCS, in the January-April period total throughput exceeded 9.4 million tonnes, up 8.4% compared with the same four-month period in 2025.

Among the main commodity categories, solid agri-food products (+4.7%), fertilisers (+18.1%), petroleum products (+30%) and construction materials (+4.1%) increased. By contrast, liquid agri-food products (-6%), liquid chemical products (-30%) and metallurgical products (-3.2%) declined.
Intermodal traffic also performed positively. Trailers increased by 4.6%, while goods transported on trailers rose by 7.1%. The container segment also grew, with TEUs up 3.9% and goods handled up 4.4%.

The positive momentum of the Ravenna port was further strengthened by the new record set on 2 May at the Bunge terminal, where the Star Sophia arrived. The vessel, 229 metres long and more than 32 metres wide, unloaded around 53,500 tonnes of goods, the largest cargo ever discharged at the port of Ravenna. The call was also made possible by the recent Berthing Ordinance issued by the Port Authority, updated in line with the port’s new depths.

The figure for April 2026 alone was also very strong. Total throughput is estimated at around 2.8 million tonnes, up almost 700,000 tonnes compared with April 2025, equal to an increase of 32%.
In detail, April saw strong growth in liquid agri-food products (+61.5%) and solid agri-food products (+42.7%), fertilisers (+33.5%), metallurgical products (+45.7%), construction materials (+13.2%) and petroleum products (+40.8%). Chemical products declined, both liquid (-6.1%) and solid (-5.1%).
Trailer traffic also remained positive in April, with a 4.6% increase in units and a 4.9% rise in goods transported. Containerised traffic was also very positive, growing by 14.7% in TEUs and by 13.7% in goods handled.
