TRIESTE – Bunge is strengthening its presence at the Port of Ravenna with a €4.4 million investment in its Porto Corsini facility. By the end of the summer of 2026, the plant will have doubled its processing capacity for soy grown in Italy.
The project focuses on modernizing the seed receiving plant, increasing storage capacity, and upgrading the internal laboratory to improve operational efficiency ahead of the upcoming harvest season. In terms of infrastructure, a new rear-unloading system for trucks will be added alongside the existing side-unloading system, allowing for faster handling of transport vehicles. The project also includes the construction of a new silo and the installation of new chain conveyors to optimize the flow of seeds to the processing line. Additionally, the internal laboratory has been expanded to accelerate and enhance the quality analysis process.
With this increased production capacity, the company plans to boost its procurement of soy from Italy’s major agricultural regions, including Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Piedmont, Lombardy, and Friuli Venezia Giulia. The raw material will be utilized for food supply chains, animal feed, and biofuel production. According to the company, this investment also reinforces the role of Porto Corsini as a strategic link between national agricultural production and both Italian and European markets.
“Our investment in Porto Corsini reflects our commitment to Italian farmers and to our customers in the food, feed, and fuel sectors,” stated Saverio Panico, Country Manager of Bunge Italia. “It strengthens our ability to source locally while integrating crops from other origins, contributing to Italy’s food security and the supply of sustainable raw materials through stable and reliable procurement.”
The construction phase was completed in June, and the new facility setup will be fully operational by the end of the summer, in time to receive the new season’s harvest. In Italy, Bunge operates through several ports and offices. Its Porto Corsini industrial hub includes a soy crushing plant, a multi-oil refinery, a vegetable oil bottling plant, and a facility dedicated to biodiesel production.
