TRIESTE – The 2025 anti-pollution and firefighting drill took place yesterday in the Northern roadstead of the Port of Trieste, aimed at testing the operational response to a complex maritime incident. The scenario involved the loss of several containers from a containership and the spill of lubricating oil, classified as a minor-to-moderate event. The Port Authority coordinated the response, deploying its own assets along with the Fire Brigade, Civil Protection, Castalia’s SPICA anti-pollution unit and a barge from Koper to recover a sunken container. A small fire outbreak on board the Castalia unit was also simulated, then contained and extinguished. Arpa FVG, the port’s chemical consultant and RINA technicians also took part in the exercise. The activity made it possible to test procedures and coordination among the entities involved.
