TRIESTE – Port calls have also been postponed at the ports of Venice and Ravenna, due to the union protest against arms traffic and in particular against ZIM, an Israeli shipping line.
The container ship ZIM Australia, which was due to berth today in Venice and tomorrow in Ravenna, as well as MSC EAGLE III, bound for Israel, which was due yesterday in Ravenna and was expected today in Venice, have postponed their schedules.
These are the first tangible results—Usb, the grassroots union, says in a statement—of the international strike that dockworkers in several countries have organized for today against arms traffic, the privatization of quays, and the militarization of ports.
The strike and the demonstrations initially planned in 21 ports across the Mediterranean and also in Northern Europe are also involving other port cities such as Marseille and Barcelona, and are receiving solidarity even from across the Atlantic.
