TRIESTE – The Friuli Venezia Giulia Region will allocate €550,000 to support the Sdag freight village in Gorizia, which is expected to suffer in the coming months due to the closure of Slovenia’s H4 expressway.
The measure, to be included in the upcoming budget adjustment bill, aims to ensure the freight village remains operational during the works, which will cause significant delays to cross-border traffic. The announcement was made today in Gorizia by Regional Councillor for Infrastructure and Territory, Cristina Amirante, during a meeting with the management of Sdag.
Works on the H4—an essential route linking to Slovenia—will be carried out in two phases: the first will start in mid-August 2025 and last 100 days, and the second from late July 2026 for a further 120 days.
During these periods, the Region plans to make Sdag-managed parking areas free of charge, in order to keep the freight terminal competitive and attractive for logistics operators. Part of the funding will also be used to reduce the highway toll between the Lisert and Villesse exits for all heavy vehicles headed to Gorizia.
The regional administration is also negotiating with the Customs Agency to increase staffing levels, with the goal of speeding up customs clearance procedures during the Slovenian road closures. The objective is to mitigate the economic impact of the works and preserve the logistical functionality of the Gorizia area.
