TRIESTE – “We have learned of the Tar’s decision to reject the appeal against the ideas competition launched by the Venice Port Authority for the offshore port. This is certainly good news for the entire port community.”
With these words, the president of the Venice Port Community (Vpc), Davide Calderan, commented on the ruling that allows the continuation of the research and planning process promoted by the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority.
For Calderan, the offshore port represents «a turning point for the economy linked to port activities,» capable of offering Venice «a concrete alternative to the city’s tourism monoculture» and opening up new possibilities for trade with the rest of Europe.
The Vpc president also noted that «only by combining long-term vision with immediate actions already under way — such as the Isola delle Tresse 2 project, maintenance of the Malamocco–Marghera channel, the Canale Nord passenger terminal and upgrades to the Vittorio Emanuele — can continuity and substance be ensured for future investments».
According to Calderan, this strategy will help keep Venice “a jewel of Italian port logistics” and safeguard the city’s historic role as a gateway for global exchange.
