TRIESTE – The renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding aimed at improving workplace safety in the port area was signed yesterday at the Prefecture in Ravenna.

The new document reaffirms the commitment pursued since 2008 by Ravenna’s port community to protect workers’ health and safety. This commitment is seen as a priority by the public bodies, companies and administrations operating within the port, with the involvement of trade unions and industry associations.
A key role in defining and implementing the protocol is entrusted to the Romagna Local Health Authority (AUSL), which is tasked with coordinating the prevention and inspection activities of public bodies, identifying intervention priorities and monitoring over time the effective application of the measures set out.

The stated objective is to strengthen port-activity safety levels in a structural and permanent way, through shared actions consistent with the roles and responsibilities of the various parties involved. The protocol focuses on spreading a safety culture, targeted worker training, effective inspections, coordination among administrations and alignment between workers’ safety representatives, RSPPs and regulatory and supervisory bodies.
The protocol was signed by the Port System Authority, Confindustria Romagna, Confimi Industria Romagna, Confartigianato, CNA, Confcooperative Romagna Estense, Legacoop Romagna, AGCI, CISL, FIT-CISL, CGIL, FILT-CGIL, UIL, UIL Trasporti, the Port Workers’ Company (Compagnia Portuale) and AUSL Romagna—an extensive set of signatories confirming the broad, collective approach adopted by the port of Ravenna on workplace safety.
