TRIESTE – In a week’s time, the management committee of the Port Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea will meet in Trieste, convened by president Marco Consalvo, still without a secretary general but now with new statutory auditors in place. Speaking recently to Italy’s public broadcaster, president Consalvo announced his intention to speed up the Pier VIII project, the expansion of the existing logistics platform operated by HHLA PLT Italy and the redevelopment of the former Servola steelworks area.
During the next management committee meeting, scheduled for Tuesday 31 March, a key step in the administrative process should be discussed, paving the way for publication of the tender notice. The last meeting was held in October because the board of statutory auditors was incomplete; its members were appointed for the next four years only at the end of February by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. It cannot be ruled out, although this is only rumour, that in a last-minute move the next management committee meeting could also address the issue of the secretary general, awaited for months to complete the Port Authority’s top team as it faces delicate matters, above all those linked to projects financed under the PNRR complementary fund, with the new Servola station foremost among them.
