TRIESTE – The port of Ravenna is increasing its operational capacity thanks to a new ordinance issued by the Harbour Master’s Office: draught limits have been raised at the old Marcegaglia quay and Petra quays.
The measure, published yesterday, represents a further step forward in the process of adapting the seabed along the Candiano Canal following dredging, levelling and the removal of submerged obstacles. The new provisions bring the operational draught to 10.80 metres at the old Marcegaglia quay and to 10.30 metres at Petra berths 1-4, under the conditions set out by the regulations.
The ordinance is the result of the work of the permanent technical table between the Harbour Master’s Office and the Port System Authority, with the contribution of technical-nautical services, and will make it possible to accommodate larger vessels while maintaining safety standards.
«We are continuing to work in close cooperation with the Harbour Master’s Office – Coast Guard to ensure sustainable development for the port of Ravenna in maximum safety», said Francesco Benevolo, president of the Port System Authority of the Central-Northern Adriatic Sea. «I thank Commander Tattoli for this further step forward, which consolidates the results of the important dredging work carried out and supports the competitiveness of our companies».
Harbour Master Captain Maurizio Tattoli expressed satisfaction with the result achieved, reaffirming the commitment to continue with further regulatory measures on port areas that will be subject to dredging or levelling, in a process which — he stressed — «will continue to develop gradually and prudently, always in compliance with priority safety requirements, in support of a port that aims to strengthen its role as a reference point in the Adriatic logistics landscape and in the regional and national production system».
