TRIESTE – The Guardia di Finanza is strengthening its fleet in the Upper Adriatic with the entry into service of the fast patrol boat “V.862”, assigned to the Air and Naval Operations Unit of Trieste and destined for the Naval Operations Section of Lignano Sabbiadoro.
The arrival of the new unit is part of the plan to modernise the naval component of the Guardia di Finanza. The patrol boat, built by the FB Design shipyard in Annone Brianza, measures around 16 metres and is equipped with two six-cylinder in-line FPT engines, capable of delivering a combined power output of 1,900 horsepower. According to the Guardia di Finanza, the unit can reach a maximum speed of 54 knots.
The V.862 also uses the “Structural Foam” construction system, a solution that makes it unsinkable and ensures greater stability and seakeeping even in complex operating conditions.
From an operational standpoint, the new patrol boat is fitted with advanced navigation and detection equipment and an infrared video surveillance system to increase its target detection and identification capabilities. The Guardia di Finanza underlines that the unit is particularly versatile for maritime policing, economic and financial policing, the fight against illicit trafficking, and public order and security services. The new vessel also stands out for its innovative livery, featuring a yellow-green band running along both sides and a stylised griffin on the bow, elements designed to increase the unit’s visibility and recognisability.
