TRIESTE – Jadrolinija is preparing a €280 million plan to build up to ten vessels powered by alternative fuels.

The company has signed a mandate with the World Bank and the IFC (International Finance Corporation), opening the way to financing, with the aim of finalising the agreement between March and April next year. The order will mainly include new ferries, along with three or four passenger vessels, all equipped with engines designed for biodiesel, green methanol or electric solutions, in line with EU targets.

The first additions to the fleet are expected between late 2027 and early 2028. Jadrolinija intends to respond to rising tourist traffic while supporting domestic shipbuilding. The company says it is ready to work with Croatian shipyards to maximise the economic impact of the programme.
The announcement was made in recent days in Split, aboard the Dalmacija—operating on the Split–Ancona route—chosen as the venue for the press briefing. Today the national carrier’s fleet counts 59 vessels, transporting more than 12 million passengers and 3.5 million vehicles every year.
