TRIESTE – The Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea has approved the 2026-2028 Three-Year Operating Plan at the end of a day marked by discussion within the Maritime Resource Partnership Body, where operators and institutional representatives put forward observations and requests for amendments.
Before approval, port operators submitted a document containing several proposals, asking that documentation be sent further in advance, that they be more closely involved in the preparation of strategic documents and that some points of the Plan be revised. During the debate, concern was also expressed over the effects of the port governance reform currently under discussion at national level, which, according to several contributions, could reduce the powers of the Port System Authorities.
It was the Port Authority president, Marco Consalvo, who sought to calm the controversy, assuring those present of the body’s willingness to take on board the observations that emerged during the discussion.
«As regards the observations raised during the Partnership Body meeting, it must be said that the plan is updated every year and we will take all suggestions into consideration. But to do everything would require too much money, which is not currently available», president Consalvo told Adriaports.
Also speaking during the meeting was Lega MEP Anna Maria Cisint, present on behalf of the Municipality of Monfalcone, who, while expressing an overall positive assessment of the Authority’s work, called for a change of pace in the development of the Isonzo port.
In the statement issued at the end of the meeting, Cisint identifies as a priority the reconstruction of the most deteriorated stretch of quay and the related asphalt works, an intervention estimated at around €20 million which she considers necessary above all for safety reasons. The MEP also highlights the need to increase infrastructure investments, argues that Monfalcone must be supported by a more incisive development vision and calls for the appointment of a director dedicated to the port, maintaining that the port’s growth requires an adequate management structure.
On some of the issues raised by the MEP too, Consalvo maintained an approach based on dialogue. «What Ms Cisint said is acceptable; the problem is how to finance it. As for the director, we intend to proceed», the president concluded.
