TRIESTE – The Ravenna City Council has approved the zoning amendment that will speed up development in the Pialassa dei Piomboni area. Plans call for new docks, infrastructure, and a hub for modular facilities designed for maritime transport.
For the Port of Ravenna, this is a crucial formal step toward the redevelopment of the former Carni area, which is set to become a new production and logistics hub serving the port.
The City Council has given the green light to the State-Region Agreement required for the project’s approval: this resolution marks a decisive step toward launching one of the strategic initiatives outlined in the Ravenna Port Hub program, which is designed to strengthen the port’s operational capacity and competitiveness. The resolution also allows for an amendment to the current urban planning instruments, confirming the project’s compliance with urban planning regulations. The most significant aspect concerns the simplification of the permitting process: the works can be carried out directly, without having to wait for the approval of an Implementation Urban Plan, thereby significantly reducing the time required to begin construction.
The area, which is currently unused, is under concession to the Adriatic Consortium, which was awarded the 50-year state concession through a public bidding process conducted by the Port System Authority of the Central-Northern Adriatic Sea. The goal is to transform the site into an industrial hub dedicated to the construction and handling of modular systems transportable by sea, with an operational area of at least 12,000 square meters.
The project calls for investments of approximately 28 million euros in infrastructure, in addition to 16.2 million euros earmarked for production facilities. The Adriatic Consortium consists of RAM Power, S.I.E., and Nautilus. The RAM Group intends to use the new facility for the manufacture and shipment of large industrial modules that cannot be transported by road, while Nautilus aims to expand its logistics capacity to support the growth of maritime activities in the Adriatic.
The work will include the completion of the docks and the construction of a new dock in the northwest area of the former Carni site, soil stabilization, the improvement of operational yards, and the construction of new access and connecting roads. In addition , utility networks and underground services will be installed , along with fire protection systems, electrical and fiber-optic infrastructure, and systems for the collection and treatment of stormwater and first-flush runoff, as well as quay equipment such as mooring bollards, fenders, and gangways.
