TRIESTE – A tragedy was narrowly avoided and the motorway was closed this afternoon on the A4 between Villesse and Palmanova towards Venice, where an accident that could have had far more serious consequences once again involved a heavy goods vehicle.
Shortly before 4 p.m. – according to Autostrade Alto Adriatico – the vehicle, for reasons still to be clarified, at kilometre 500 near the municipality of Campolongo Tapogliano, lost its load box along the carriageway, containing two generators, which was attached to the semi-trailer. The attachment, as it overturned, also struck the barriers, causing serious damage.
Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported. The traffic police, firefighters and Autostrade Alto Adriatico personnel attended the scene. To allow the removal of the materials, the A34/A4 link road entering towards Venice was closed for traffic coming from Gorizia – Villesse, and a compulsory exit at Villesse was introduced for vehicles coming from Trieste.
