TRIESTE – The container terminal of the Port of Koper is continuing to renew its operating equipment and has ordered four new electric cranes.

Luka Koper, the company that manages the Slovenian port, has signed an agreement for another four Konecranes RTGs (Rubber-Tired Gantry cranes), confirming the upgrade path launched last year.

The new contract follows the 2024 purchase and provides for delivery in the second quarter of 2026. The electric RTGs will replace diesel units still in service and will be powered via cable-reel systems connected to the grid, with onboard batteries for movements between the stacks. Each crane will be equipped with the Truck Lift Prevention system, designed to enhance safety during operations.

The port already operates a fleet of 32 RTGs and four RMGs (Rail-Mounted Gantry cranes), one of which has been upgraded for remote control.
For Konecranes, the order is part of its Ecolifting programme, which focuses on electric and hybrid solutions to reduce the environmental impact of port equipment.
