TRIESTE – The Luka Koper Group, which operates the Port of Koper, reports significant growth in the first nine months of 2025.
Despite a global climate marked by economic instability and commercial uncertainty, Luka Koper states that between January and September revenues reached €282.9 million (+16% compared to the same period in 2024). The increase is driven mainly by container and car traffic, as well as higher storage income.
Operating profit (EBIT) rose to €74.5 million, up 39% on 2024. The positive trend reflects higher revenues and other income exceeding expectations, while operating costs grew by 1% against forecasts, reaching €212.1 million. Services, personnel and general expenses weighed on the total, though they were offset by stronger profitability.
Net profit for the nine months reached €62.4 million, 26% higher than in the same period of 2024.
Container traffic reached 950,625 teu, up 14% compared to the first nine months of 2024. Growth is linked to new flows to inland industrial facilities and changes in maritime services from the Far East and the Mediterranean. Car traffic also increased to 684,269 units, +7% on 2024, supported mainly by arrivals from China and stronger exports to Mediterranean countries.
Total cargo handled by sea amounted to 17.1 million tonnes, in line with 2024 but slightly below forecasts (-1%) due to declines in certain commodity groups.
Luka Koper continues what it describes as an “intense” investment cycle. In the first nine months, €81.9 million was allocated to new works and expansions. Ongoing projects include the multi-purpose warehouse for coils, the extension of the north side of Pier I, Berth 12 on Pier II, the new fire station, upgrades in the container terminal area and the refurbishment of the refrigerated warehouse. The first phase of development of Area 6A has been completed, the cruise terminal building has been finalised and the technological system for adding biocomponents to aviation fuel is now in place.
