TRIESTE – The Coast Guard stopped and fined yesterday in Porto Nogaro (Udine) the “HUSEYN JAVID” flying the flag of Azerbaijan, moored at the Margreth quay.Documentary irregularities have been detected, related to fire prevention regulations and life-saving devices, as well as in the field of maritime security. Among the reasons for the arrest and the administrative sanction of 10 thousand euros, also the absence of the Statement of Compliance with the new legislation on Ship Recycling. Introduced in 2013, the standard aims to reduce, prevent and, if possible, eliminate accidents, and other harmful effects on human health and the environment caused by the recycling of ships.
Controls on board the vessels moored in the port, regarding the protection of human life at sea, the safety of navigation and the marine and coastal environment, they fall within the normal routine tasks performed by the local maritime office. In fact, it was the third inspection carried out on a foreign ship during this last one week. It is the first time, in these areas, that a similar circumstance has occurred, as the entry into force of the aforementioned legislation – first expected on January 1st of this year, due to the pandemic phenomenon linked to Covid-19, is was postponed to 1 July 2021. The ship will be able to return to the sea when the corrective measures necessary to comply with the regulations have been put in place.
