TRIESTE – PSA Venice-Vecon is set to close 2025 with the best result in its recent history. The container terminal in Porto Marghera is expected to reach 340,000 TEU, surpassing both the 2024 and 2023 figures. This growth underscores the lagoon port’s increasingly solid role within PSA Italy’s Italian network, the country’s leading gateway operator.

Overall volumes across the terminals operated by the company remain broadly in line with market trends. In Genoa, PSA SECH confirms a positive trajectory, closing the year at 305,000 TEU compared to 295,000 in 2024. At PSA Genova Pra’ – Italy’s leading container terminal – the estimated year-end figure stands at 1,425,633 TEU. The result is stable, in a context characterised by larger vessels and fewer port calls, leading to operational peaks alternating with periods of reduced activity. On the rail side, however, there is a decline: 167,433 TEU for the year, down from 228,000 in 2024, due to RFI works that in August limited line capacity towards Pra’.

PSA Italy is also stepping up sustainability-related investments. In December 2025, new fully electric E-RTG cranes manufactured by ZPMC will arrive: six units for PSA Genova Pra’ and three for PSA Venice-Vecon. For SECH, following completion of the Kuntz rail system inaugurated in spring, two additional ship-to-shore quay cranes are expected, due to arrive in February 2026. According to CEO Roberto Ferrari, Italy’s growth fits within a positive international picture. PSA’s global network reached 100.5 million TEU handled in October 2025, exceeding the total recorded at the end of 2024.
Overall, the year-end estimates confirm resilient traffic levels and a strategy focused on efficiency and reducing environmental impact. For Venice, 2025 marks a further step forward, while Genoa consolidates its role as a central hub in Italy’s container system.
