TRIESTE – The Interporto di Pordenone will have a 750-metre rail shunting track, as part of a €7 million project backed by the FVG Region and European funds.

The extension of the shunting track from the current 315 metres to 750 was presented on Monday evening by the Regional Councillor for Infrastructure and Territory, Cristina Amirante, during the presentation of Lot 6 of the intermodal centre, with the installation of the pillars. The Region has committed over €5 million to the works, which fall under the European Connecting Europe Facility programme.

The new standard allows 650-metre trains to enter the terminal in full, without splitting and without additional manoeuvres. The expected result is shorter handling times, smoother rail operations and higher traffic volumes, with a positive impact also on the share of freight shifted from road to rail. The project is being developed along the Rete Ferroviaria Italiana line. The first phase, concerning the via Nuova di Corva overpass, is scheduled to be completed on 1 January 2026. The second, dedicated to the shunting-track embankment, should be finished by 31 December 2026.
