TRIESTE – Rhenus has activated a new overland corridor via Jordan to connect Europe, Turkey and the Gulf countries: an alternative to traditional routes at a time of strong geopolitical and logistics instability in the Middle East.
The new solution connects European markets and Turkey with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman through a combination of road and multimodal transport. The aim is to guarantee greater operational continuity, predictability and control along the supply chain.
The service has been designed to adapt to different industrial needs, using curtain-sided vehicles with payloads of up to 24 tonnes and refrigerated vehicles of up to 23 tonnes. It can also be integrated with maritime and air connections within Rhenus’ global network.
Among the operations already completed is an urgent shipment for the Oil & Gas sector, which departed from Lyon and arrived in Dubai in 18 days. The transport used road and ferry links, also passing via Trieste and Mersin, before continuing via Jordan towards the United Arab Emirates.
According to Rhenus, the service has already recorded significant demand in its first weeks of operation, with more than ten full-truckload shipments handled and over 190,000 kilograms of goods moved.
The corridor was created in response to the growing critical issues affecting global supply chains and routes to the Middle East. The transit times indicated by the operator range from 10 to 13 days from Turkey and from 19 to 22 days from Europe.
