TRIESTE – Change at the top of Trieste Terminal Passeggeri. The shareholders’ meeting of the company that manages the Maritime Station and passenger traffic services in the port of Trieste has appointed Marco Consalvo as the new chairman of the board of directors.
The company is 40% owned by the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea and 60% by Trieste Adriatic Maritime Initiatives (TAMI), controlled by MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises with 44.37% each, and by Assicurazioni Generali with 11.26%.
The shareholders’ meeting confirmed Franco Mariani as chief executive officer, while Luigi Merlo, Roberto Ferrarini and Guido Bortoluzzi also join the new board of directors. Alberto Grimaldi has been named general manager.

During the meeting, the 2025 financial statements were approved, closing with a net profit of 3.2 million euros and total revenue of around 11.1 million euros.
In 2025, Trieste Terminal Passeggeri handled 455,469 passengers and 131 ship calls. The company notes that the results confirm its economic solidity even in a phase of declining volumes, as well as the presence in Trieste of the main international cruise lines.

For 2026, around 130 calls are expected, with operators including Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Holland America Line, TUI Cruises, Marella Cruises and Royal Caribbean International, in addition to MSC and Costa. The programme will focus mainly on medium-sized and luxury-segment ships, with both home-port and transit operations. The presence of smaller vessels is nevertheless expected to result in a slight reduction in the overall number of passengers compared with 2025.
The outlook for 2027 instead points to a recovery in traffic, with around 136 calls scheduled and the return of larger vessels.

Consalvo thanked outgoing chairman Gianluca Madriz and the previous board of directors, stressing that the cruise sector represents «a relevant segment for the port of Trieste and for the local economy» and requires «even more structured management between planning, services and flows».
Meanwhile, the Port Authority has confirmed a number of investments in infrastructure dedicated to cruises, including extraordinary maintenance on Bersaglieri Pier worth around 3 million euros and the quay electrification project, worth around 11 million euros, with completion expected by June.
