TRIESTE – The Gulf of Trieste is getting ready to welcome tomorrow the 2,000 boats entered in the 57th edition of the Barcolana, the world’s most crowded regatta, scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m..

Once again this year, the event brings together a diverse fleet made up of professional crews, amateurs and families from all over Europe.

Yesterday afternoon, last year’s winners, Furio Benussi and Giulia Leghissa, returned the Coppa d’Autunno and the Generali Trophy to Mitja Gialuz, president of SVBG, and to Emma Ursich, head of Corporate Identity at the Generali Group, putting them back up for grabs in the 2025 edition.

During the event, it was announced that in 2026 the regatta Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Il Veloce, organized by Difesa Servizi in cooperation with the Italian Navy and SSI Sport & Events, will conclude in Trieste, coinciding with the 58th Barcolana, after starting from Genoa.

«We wanted to bring together two of Italy’s most important events,» said Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Italian Navy, «to promote maritime culture and strengthen the country’s image on the international stage». «The arrival of the Nastro Rosa Veloce in Trieste in 2026 represents the synergy of two major events that work as a system to showcase Italy», added Luca Andreoli, CEO of Difesa Servizi.

To mark the regatta, the Trieste Harbour Master’s Office opened the Coast Guard vessel Ubaldo Diciotti CP 941 to the public, which can be visited today from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Molo IV, with free admission. The ship is used for search and rescue, navigation safety and environmental protection operations.

Meanwhile, the fifth edition of the Barcolana Sea Summit has concluded, dedicated to water conservation and the promotion of the blue economy. The 2025 edition explored the topics of climate change, electrification and the digital transition in the energy sector, focusing on technical skills and safety in education and training contexts. «Discussing water protection through an integrated perspective is essential to educate new generations and foster dialogue between businesses and institutions», said Mitja Gialuz, president of SVBG.

The President of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Massimiliano Fedriga, reiterated «the importance of public-private cooperation for the sustainable development of the sea and for strengthening the blue economy in Friuli Venezia Giulia». The final day of the summit focused on the Underwater theme, with a spotlight on the National Underwater Dimension Hub (PNS) and on the technological and sustainable development of underwater activities.

Two panel discussions examined the economic, regulatory and environmental aspects of the sector, with the participation of institutional, industrial and scientific representatives.
