TRIESTE – Ambassador Francesco Talò continues his meetings for the promotion of the Indo-Mediterranean Corridor.
In recent days, Italy’s special envoy for the IMEC, appointed by the Italian government last April, met in Dubai with Ahmed Bin Sulayem, chairman and CEO of DP World.
«Talking to him means moving from political and diplomatic visions to the tangible results achieved by a global leader in logistics and maritime services», commented Talò.
DP World is a multinational company operating in logistics, ports, maritime terminals and free zones, headquartered in Dubai but with an international presence managing hundreds of terminals and related operations across dozens of countries. The group was established in 2005 from the merger between Dubai Ports Authority and Dubai Ports International.
«We literally went around the world in a single conversation. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem spoke about connectivity,» explained Talò, «across all possible routes, reaching both established and emerging destinations, including Syria. Maritime links that merge with overland connections between continents, described in very concrete terms: figures, investments, returns».
The Italian envoy stressed the need for greater integration between Europe, the Gulf region and India, and the opportunities offered by IMEC (the India–Middle East–Europe Corridor), which could provide the infrastructure needed to potentially double trade between India and the EU over the next decade.
Talò also added that it will be crucial to ensure the security of these new critical infrastructures (ports, pipelines, subsea cables), also through Italian technologies in the underwater sector. Equally important, he said, will be extending the initiative to Africa with a true network approach — with Trieste potentially serving as a key European hub within this network.
