TRIESTE – The Port System Authority of the Central-Northern Adriatic Sea has reopened the “Green Ports” call, allocating 4 million euros in non-repayable grants to support terminal operators and port concession holders in replacing quay operating equipment with electric or hydrogen-powered machinery. Applications may be submitted until 30 June 2026.

Aid intensity can reach up to 100% of eligible costs, with a ceiling of 300,000 euros per beneficiary. This is an important and strategic measure within the Italian incentives landscape, made possible by the classification of the contribution as compensation for the additional decarbonisation costs compared with the purchase of an equivalent diesel-powered vehicle.

Eligible expenses include: the purchase of new electric or hydrogen-powered vehicles – including forklifts, cranes, sweepers and trucks – the retrofit of existing diesel vehicles, the installation of charging infrastructure, technical design costs and operator training. Methane-powered vehicles, purchases of used equipment and any expenses incurred before the award decree are excluded. The call is open to private terminal operators and holders of concessions or equivalent authorisations issued by the Port System Authority, carrying out their activities within the port of Ravenna or Marina di Ravenna. The concession must remain valid for at least five years from the application date, corresponding to the period during which the purchased asset must remain in use.

The procedure is on a first-come, first-served basis: applications will be assessed in order of arrival until the available resources are exhausted, with the award decree expected within 60-90 days of the deadline and payment of a 50% advance within 30 days of the decree.
The call is part of NRRP investment 1.1 “Green Ports”, for which the National Recovery and Resilience Plan has allocated a total of 270 million euros to the environmental sustainability of Italian ports.
