TRIESTE – The Friuli Venezia Giulia Region has confirmed for 2026 the support measures for road transport and logistics during the works on Slovenia’s H4 motorway.

The Regional Executive has approved the draft agreement with Sdag Spa, renewing for 2026 the free use of the parking areas at the Gorizia Interport for hauliers during the closure of the Slovenian H4 expressway, which is undergoing infrastructure upgrade works.

The measure, proposed by Regional Councillor for Infrastructure and Territory Cristina Amirante, implements Regional Law 12/2025 and aims to limit the impact of the works on freight traffic flows between Italy and Slovenia. «The objective is to reduce the effects of the H4 closure on the regional logistics system and road network by providing concrete support to road hauliers and helping maintain balanced freight traffic flows along the border with Slovenia,» Amirante explained.

Under the agreement, Sdag will make available, free of charge, the Interport’s three equipped parking areas, providing around 465 parking spaces across more than 82,000 square metres. The agreement also includes assistance, security and customs support services.
To cover the costs of the service, the Region will provide Sdag with a contribution of up to €300,000 for the entire H4 closure period, estimated at around 130 days.

According to the Region, the experience gained in 2025 demonstrated that the measure was effective in limiting disruption and preserving the operational efficiency of the Gorizia logistics hub.
Amirante also noted that the renewal of the agreement forms part of the ongoing cooperation between the Italian and Slovenian authorities to manage the impact of the works along one of the main international transport corridors, while ensuring operational support for the road haulage sector and economic activities in the border area.
