TRIESTE – FS Logistix will acquire 30% of Compagnia Ferroviaria Italiana (CFI) to develop intermodal freight transport and make the rail-road system more competitive.
FS Logistix, a Ferrovie dello Stato Group company, has signed an agreement with F2i SGR and FHP Group to enter the share capital of CFI, a rail freight operator controlled by FHP. The operation provides for a 30% stake and is part of an industrial project aimed at strengthening the rail logistics offer, improving planning and operational coverage.
The objective is to strengthen the competitiveness of intermodal rail transport, in line with European policies promoting modal rebalancing, emission reductions and greater energy efficiency. «This operation opens up new prospects for industrial development», said FS Logistix CEO Sabrina De Filippis, stressing that the agreement will make it possible to expand operating capacity and improve service efficiency.
FHP Group manages terminals at Porto Marghera and at the port of Monfalcone, the latter under the jurisdiction of the Trieste Authority.
According to Silvio Damagini, CEO of Mercitalia Rail, the entry into CFI will enable more effective service planning, supporting the development of intermodality. On the investors’ side, Renato Ravanelli highlighted how the operation will help make logistics services more competitive for the production system, with the objective of developing FHP as a pan-European operator capable of competing with road transport and supporting the European 2030 targets on modal shift.
For Paolo Cornetto, CEO of FHP Group, the agreement marks a further step in the group’s growth. In 2025 it completed the integration of CFI and Lotras and expanded its terminal presence through new acquisitions in Savona and Torre Annunziata, reaching ten terminals managed along the Italian peninsula. The objective is to strengthen integrated port-rail services and support the modal shift from road to rail. The closing of the operation remains subject to approval by the competent regulatory authorities.
