TRIESTE – This morning, Interporto Padova was the scene of an Extinction Rebellion protest, during which a group of activists chained themselves to the main gates, blocking truck access for several hours.

The action, carried out under the slogan “For Palestine, we block everything,” was organized in solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla, some of whose vessels were stopped by Israel yesterday. Protesters sat on the ground and chained themselves to the entrance bars, creating a human barrier that interrupted the passage of heavy vehicles. Tense moments occurred when a truck failed to stop in front of the blockade, nearly running over the chained demonstrators.

Interporto Padova, established in 1973 and now a “core” infrastructure of the European TEN-T network, is owned by the Municipality (18%), the Province, and the Chamber of Commerce. On July 21, the City Council approved a resolution—with 17 votes in favor and 2 abstentions—introducing measures in response to Israel’s conduct and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. According to the activists, however, the resolution remains only on paper: no agreements have been terminated, nor have any criteria or sanctions been established to monitor the actions of the companies involved.

After more than two hours of blockade at Interporto Padova, law enforcement intervened to clear the area. Following on-site identification, all individuals present—including those documenting the protest with photos and videos—were taken to police headquarters.
